性状 红色六方晶系结晶或粉末。 相对密度 8.10 溶解性 难溶于水，溶于硫化钠浓溶液，不溶于醇和硝酸。 硫化汞有两种结晶状态。α-硫化汞为红色六方晶系结晶或粉末，称为红色硫化示（辰砂），相对密度8.10, 583.5℃升华，难溶于水，溶于硫化钠浓溶液，不溶于醇和硝酸。β-硫化汞为深灰黑色立方晶体或无定型粉末，称为黑色硫化汞，相对密度7.73,熔点583.5℃，不溶于水、醇和硝酸，能溶于碱金属和碱土金属硫化物的浓溶液。在隔绝空气下，将这两种不同形态的硫化汞升华，均可得到六方晶系的红色硫化汞产物。红色硫化汞为中性化合物，化学性质稳定，不溶于一般稀酸、烧碱、乙醇、水、微溶于煮沸的浓盐酸，甚易溶于王水中。具有一定颜料性能的硫化汞叫银朱。根据不同工艺条件，可制成暗红、鲜红、亮红等多种色调的品种，这主要与颜料粒子大小及转变为硫化汞的条件有关。粒子直径越大，色调越接近暗红色；粒子直径越小，色调越接近亮红色，甚至带上黄色的色调。银朱有很高的遮盖力和着色力，但其耐光性较差，长期在阳光照射下，其六方晶系缓慢转变为四方晶系而使其颜色变暗。
